Mark O’Connor joins Invest South Board of Directors
The Community Trust of Southland today announced the appointment of Mark O’Connor as an independent director of Invest South, effective immediately. Mr O’Connor has recently resigned from his role at South Port NZ Limited, after 17 years as Chief Executive.
Mark is a chartered accountant who is passionate about strengthening Southland’s economy and industry. In addition to his management over two decades in the port sector he has held several governance roles, including his current roles on the board of Calvary Hospital Southland, Southland Chamber of Commerce and as Chairman of Southland Energy Consortium. Mark is also team leader for the New Industries Action Team, a Southland Regional Development Strategy working group. In 2016, he received a Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand fellowship recognising his service to the profession and community.
“Mark is recognised as a leader in business and governance in Southland. He has successfully managed and grown Southland’s only NZX listed company, Southport with shares trading at 500% higher than when he began as CEO in 2000. We are very confident that Mark will add substantial value to the Invest South Board and that the fund’s investee companies will benefit from his management and governance experience, insights and counsel.” said Peter Carnahan, Chair of Invest South.
Mark says that he is delighted to be joining the Invest South Board as a director. “I believe strongly that with the benefit of growth capital, there are a number of dynamic and innovative companies in the region, who would gain considerable value from the commercial experience, networks and governance experience that Invest South offers, on top of capital requirements. I look forward to working with the Board to realise the value in existing investments while identifying opportunities for future investment.
Mark replaces Ian Sutherland whose term on the Board is at an end.
